One of the hardest things in life is being independent. From the very day we are born we rely on others around us to reach out a hand. After all, we are human and humans are social beings.
But as we continue to grow, we learn that being independent is the key to unlocking our potential.
The journey of independence is one of the hardest journeys I've ever taken in my life. I don't mean that necessarily literally. I've always been kind of an introvert.
But even introverts, though they made need a little less social contact than others, need to find their independence - their inner freedom.
The month of July is a month for so many of us to celebrate the independence and freedom we receive from the place in which we live. It's an awesome thing to take a few moments to reflect and appreciate the good we've been given. Being free in our daily lives is something that must never be taken for granted.
However, have you ever felt like a prisoner within your own world? Metaphorically, speaking.
Like there is a secret hidden inside of you and you are unsure how to tell the world?
Independence means many different things to people. To me, it simply means to be free.
As I move forward on the journey of independence I realize that the more I show myself, my true colors, the more I am independent. The more I am free.
Upon these reflective times, I am reminded of my favorite poem by my favorite poet, Robert Frost; "Two roads diverged in the wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference." ~ The Road Not Taken
When I chose to take my own path from being who I wasn't I discovered who I was. I discovered my independence. I continue to fight and live for it everyday.
Life if filled with roads. Ones we decide to take and ones we don't. But with each crossroads, each choice, we must choose what truly makes us happy in order to be free.
This is my journey of independence...
